Need to test balancing of characters [p1]

are the costs/skills such that we're forcing people to hire more characters? (we should) Are characters too powerful?

I did a little testing on this. Suggestions:

  • I like that we hire the first two characters, but then they should be more difficult to upgrade (encouraging the user to hire MORE new characters).
  • I'd like the user to be able to hire a third new person sooner. Could we either: a) start with less money and make hiring/upgrading cheaper in general or b) make tasks provide more capital as a reward?

The two main characters cost more to upgrade. Jack and The Sourcerer have a cost multiplier of 2: https://github.com/2d-inc/dev_rpg/blob/5c88370cfa738f5fdd8dc0718e8aab3296b4766a/lib/src/shared_state/game/character_pool.dart#L15

We can tweak this for each character. One thing which was nice before was that at some point you needed to hire an Engineer, but with Jack and The Sourcerer covering all the bases, there's no real requirement to do this. We can make it hard to complete without hiring someone but I fear most people won't realize they'd be going so much faster if they'd hire someone else, while forcing them to hire someone else teaches them that they should be on the lookout for what skills/level the other players are.

they have a cost multiplier of 2, but they also are much cheaper to start with, so I was seeing upgrading being cheaper than hiring a new person...?

Oh that's weird, that lower cost should only be for the initial hire. Sounds like a bug (inside of a bug) I'll double check!
