Screen narrowed down to mobile version on desktop

Open farynaio opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug When using Organice on desktop the screen is narrowed down to mobile version - only small part of the screen is used.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Organice in desktop browser
  2. The screen will be narrowed from both sides so it looks like a mobile version with a lot of space on the left and right.

Expected behavior The screen on a desktop should use entire width of the screen instead of being limited to it's mobile version.

Thank you for your input. This is known behaviour and there are actually reasons to keep it at the moment: If the lines are not hard-wrapped, they would be displayed as very long lines which makes text harder to read. Soft-wrapping text might be implemented in future when the org-parser project parses paragraphs instead of single lines.

What are the exact reasons you would like to have a wider view?

In my opinion, the current display is OK. It shouldn't be much wider than 80 characters.

Please also see our contribution guidelines; we want to keep the number of open issues manageable.

@schoettl thanks for the clarification.

I understand that long lines may be hard to read, and the current setting helps makes them easier to read as we would have everything in a single newspaper column. That makes sense.

The problems are mostly when I try to work with tables, and a limited view really bothers then. It's also quite annoying to use Organice on the desktop all day long. I wish to at least double the size of the view then.

Maybe the solution would be to add a toggle button or option in the menu to change the size of the view to make everyone adapt it to their preferred or current needs.

What are your thoughts?

Vivaldi just introduced tiled tabs. It would excellent to have organice able to have a wider view. I realize it's primarily mobile, but sometimes you jot a note on mobile when you have to you, and you want to develop it later. This new feature for Vivaldi also makes notes on web reading easier, than something like Nyxt. Usually I just keep an Emacs frame open beside my browser, but tiled tabs seem to have the potential for less friction, if there's a good web interface like organice possible. organice_vivaldi
