Local contact naming

Since the contact name is chosen by the contact itself, it would lead to a messy contact list. For exemple, one may have several John Doe.

What is the user could locally rename a contact to better suit their need ? (e.g. choosing a nickname and so on).

About syncing: the best way is either not to sync contact name between devices or encrypt the names for each user devices.

Any update on this? I still cannot change the display name of contact now.

Nickname in parentheses under name or beside name would be tremendously helpful as Wire becomes more-widely used; just in the display at the top. I've been compulsively tapping places hoping for an option to do this as I am getting lost with the number of contacts I have with incomprehensible names.
