With the new compatibility mode, this shouldn't be needed anymore (just change the vanilla layer color, it should apply to the 3d layer correctly).

Apparently, everything except monsters are "friendly". I think this needs some refinement so stuff like boats/leashes/armorstands/villagers/minecarts/windcharge/itemframe etc don't end up being pettable 😅.

Depends. What was around you when you did this? If there was a lot of players around or a lot of nothing around(empty flatworld) this is probably expected.
