Tilt data apears to have flipped y co ordinates when using Photoshop CS5 bristle brushes

I am using a Wacom UD 1212-R00 V1.4 using a Prolific USB-Serial adaptor with the Prolific PL-2303 Mac OS X driver v1.4.0. I'm running OSX 10.7.5 and Photoshop CS5 v12.0.4

Looking at the coordinates reported in the control panel the tilt coordinate system appears to be:

tilt x axis - negative when tilted to the left of vertical, positive when tilted to the right.

tilt y axis - negative when tilted away from the user positive when tilted towards.

This co ordinate system appears to be interpreted incorrectly by Photoshop CS 5 which correctly honours the x axis tilt but treats the y axis tilt as if the axis is reversed.

This manifests itself most noticeably when using the Photoshop CS5 bristle brushes and can be clearly seen in the 3D model showing the simulated brush as it is moved and tilted.

I have tried changing the Origin and coordinate system but haven't seen any change either to the reported values in the testing tab of the control panel or in Photoshop's interpretation of the tilt data.

Does anyone else:

  1. See this issue with PS CS5.
  2. See the same tilt "polarity" reported in their control panel.
  3. Know if and how it is possible to change the polarity of the y axis tilt data returned from the tablet.

Any comments much appreciated. Stephen

This might be a problem that has existed from the beginning. I'll have a look at some other apps that care about tilt data and see if they also have a reversed polarity issue.

I've just released version 2.0b19 with support for Mountain Lion. The event code has been updated, so it might address the tilt issue you're seeing, but I didn't flip the Y coordinates in the driver. According to Wacom, Y tilt should be negative when tilting away from you, and positive when tilting towards you. http://www.thinkyhead.com/tabletmagic/download
