Automatic Collapsing of Long Chat Messages

Open us254 opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem?

Yes, the problem arises when users in a chat group send particularly lengthy messages, such as full-text articles or excessively detailed narratives, without any truncation. This can lead to an overwhelming and cluttered chat interface that hinders users from efficiently navigating conversations.

Describe the solution you'd like

I would like to see a new feature implemented that automatically collapses lengthy messages within the chat interface. The desired functionality would allow messages that exceed a certain character count to be presented in a collapsed state by default. Users should then have the option to click or tap on the collapsed message to expand it if they wish to read the entire content.

Describe alternatives you've considered

As an alternative to automatic collapsing, another solution could be providing users with the ability to manually collapse or hide messages they are not interested in. However, this would require individual action for each message, making it less convenient than the proposed automatic feature.

Additional context

The introduction of this feature would cater to a cleaner, more organized chat experience, allowing for easier browsing and engagement with relevant content. It engenders a more focused chat environment and reduces visual clutter. If feasible, incorporating user or admin controls to set length thresholds for automatic collapsing at a personal or group level would be beneficial.

I also need this feature, since I've a lots of long text message (usually send by broadcast) and I don't want to read them all at once.

This is a thing now, but only for quotes, I would appreciate collapsible code blocks.
