I pushed something to the `timeout` branch, please give it a try.

I've merged into the `main` branch. Please let me know if you run into any problems.

Each key is passed through `kbd`. I.e., the key has to have the format (a "key description") accepted by `keymap-set`, not the less convenient format `define-key` used. I.e., use `"C-l"`....

I cannot reproduce this and suspect that it is caused by the use of obsolete versions of the involved packages being used at compile- and/or run-time.

This certainly isn't important but I am going through my open pull-requests (and branches, stashes ...) and this came up. You forgot to include this in the 0.13 release. Maybe...
