License Issue

Open ccarlo88 opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

Hello,

I'm just passing by to give a small tip, I just noticed that SixLabors is changing the ImageSharp library license, so probably after 2.1.3 they are dual license, Apache and Commercial. Remember to not update to the latest one. ;)

Wouldn't it be interesting to migrate to skiasharp?

It's a dual license.

According to their license file

Works in Source or Object form are licensed to You under the Apache License, Version 2.0 if.

  • You are consuming the Work in for use in software licensed under an Open Source or Source Available license.
  • You are consuming the Work as a Transitive Package Dependency.
  • You are consuming the Work as a Direct Package Dependency in the capacity of a For-profit company/individual with less than 1M USD annual gross revenue.
  • You are consuming the Work as a Direct Package Dependency in the capacity of a Non-profit organization or Registered Charity.

I am not a lawyer, but this project would match You are consuming the Work in for use in software licensed under an Open Source or Source Available license So the license should be Apache Version 2.

And then the transitive point, would indicate consumers of this package are still covered under Apache v2

Due to the license change ImageSharp, i would prefer to switch to SkiaSharp, which is MIT licensed. SkiaSharp is nowadays used in the Microsoft Maui project too, which makes it an excellent candidate, will guarantee good quality and support in the long term.

I vote for a switch as well. Library must be full MIT licensed.
