AutoText
Hi Steven,
First of all thanks again and again for this great add-in.
Is it possible to add an AutoText feature (aka Quick Parts) like the one used in Word, so when I type 'st', for example, then press F3 it replaces 'st' with Steven Cohn? Hope it is doable :)
Have a nice day!
F3 is "find next" so maybe Alt+F3 ;-) I'll think about it. It will require a management dialog to define and manage aliases for replacement phrases
It's probably an enhancement of the existing OneMore Snippets feature. It just needs a way to assign an alias to a snippet and the ability to activate that with a shortcut key
and it will need a way to save a list of these aliases with their snippets too.
It is probably the time to start considering implementing some sort of markup language specific to note taking
I do this by adding to the OneNote dictionary which uses auto correct. It is under Options/Proofing/Autocorrect. As long as the "change from" isn't an actual word you want to use, then it will work just fine. type "st" followed by space and if you have added the mapping to ON autocorrect it will magically change when you type the delimiting space.
Going to Options/Proofing/Autocorrect to add the mistyped word and its correction, is a long way. In the old versions of office (till 2010) it had that autocorrect feature in the right-click, you were able to choose which correction you like to automatically replace your typo. This was way faster than the only available way now, the one you just mentioned. This is the feature we were talking about here.
I have access to add, remove, update entries in the Autocorrect list. So it is possible to surface that to a OneMore widget that is more easily accessible. Two things.... first, it's reinventing the wheel for the sake of saving a couple of clicks and, second, replacement values are limited to 255 plain text characters so this can't be used for either long content or formatted content.
Thanks for your reply Steven. Good to know it is doable. It sure is not wroth implementing if you do this once or twice every now and then; in which case going to Options/Proofing/Auto-correct is not a big deal. However, some of us, including myself, are cursed , not only with typing long texts, which is almost always typo prone, but with repetitive types of typo, especially with some adjacent letters, like B&V, or G&H among others, which makes this feature very useful to us. That being said, I totally understand it if you prefer focusing on other more needed features, especially if this one doesn't have enough users request. Thanks again for your response and for the awesome add-on.
