wrong background for folder panel (white fonts on grey boxes)
First, thanks for the theme, lets make thunderbird popular! ;-)

Is this a bug or a misconfiguration on my side ?
I have the same issue here. I first tried "userChrome-monterail.css" which worked fine. Switching to the dark themes doesn't work then
Same for me - Linux Mint 18.1, Mint-X theme. I don't get the boxes, but the dark themes just don't give dark backgrounds (but white text).
Not sure why you have grey boxes, maybe try downloading the css files again? Are you using a full theme as well and which gtk theme are you using?
Regarding the dark variants looking light, I think I may have been super confusing with my naming as this seems to be something that crops up a lot.
The light, dark and fulldark variants are for use with gtk themes that are light/dark/fulldark. They are not dark etc variants in themselves.
I will fix this in a few days, with one userChrome-gtk which should automatically adapt to the current theme, after which I will make the dark and fulldark variants true 'themes' with specified dark colours.

Thanks, that explains it :)
@spymastermatt thanks for the reply. I use awesomewm https://awesomewm.org/ which probably explains the fact that the gtk theme is not right. Launching gnome-session fixes this (but I would really like finding a solution that doesn't involve launching gnome-session).
I have te same issue with dark and full dark. It isn't dark on Windows but grey.
@olbi see issue #3 for an explanation.
Everyone: Sorry for being quiet for the past few days, I have been working on a big update (coming tomorrow hopefully) which fixes almost all open issues (including this one)
@arthurlogilab Once I have pushed this update I will look into why the gtk theme is detected on awesomewm. I used to use i3 so I know it's a pain when things don't detect properly :)
@jschneider @Moini @ollbi Try downloading the latest version. I have just pushed an update with numerous fixes,as well as a complete refactor, so the dark/light/fulldark/monterail variants should now work on Windows
@arthurlogilab The new version with updated dark/light/fulldark/monterail variants should now work for you. I am away for a week now but I will look into proper gtk theme detection on other WM's / DE's when I get back
@spymastermatt : Thanks :) - dark is indeed dark now on Xfce / Linux Mint 18.1 :-D Only in the toolbars, the font and icons are dark, too, when I want to write a message.
@Moini Good spot. I have pushed a fix
That was fast :) Will try it out and enjoy tomorrow :D
@spymastermatt thanks... it works now. Have a good week off.
It's better now :) It doesn't work for the Enigmail tool bar, though. Would you like a new issue?
I have a problem under Debian Stretch / Gnome 3.22 / Adwaida / Thinderbird 52.3.0: • I have no background color (it’s standard grey instead of this blueish/greenish color from your screenshots) • My fonts are black so they’re readable on the grey background, but for the correct background, the fonts should be white. • Because of the grey background, I don’t see the arrows (for browsing the folder tree).
