This sounds like a very good idea. Also, I think for any new accounts, lobby account == forum account should be enforced

write a phpbb extension that allows the user to put its username and password and if match with uberserver using the xmlrpc, set trusted account in some place?

I'm worried about maintaining phpbb extensions, even if we wrote them ourselves. See what happened to postlove and custom code support. No one's fault those things disappeared, but I'd rather not rely on an extension if it might break in a few years.

presence of verified email address can now be used, and it is not practical to obtain more trust than that in normal users
