Hm. It looks like the program is having difficulties in selecting your audio output device. Is "HDMI" connecting to an external monitor? Try initially removing/unplugging any extra outputs and inputs and just using the built in audio output speakers on your mac...or are you using something like a Mac Mini with no built in spekaers? In which case try taking audio from the audio jack output and selecting that as default before starting Sonic PI.
Got it working, by connecting my usb audio card. Afterwards didn't get the issue anymore (with or without the card)
