browser choices - which?

Given that we know our users, for the most part, are uninformed about browsers, and what they do, we may find that offering a complete list of all modern browsers is confusing.

Questions from this may include: Why would they choose one over another? Why is this site offering me more than one choice?
Is one of these actually better, and if so, why would I be offered sub-par browsers?

Options: Randomly prompt for one specific browser Allow site owners to select one Show the lot and risk confusion (confusion/fear generally tends to result in no action, which is probably not what we want :) ). Show the lot and offer friendly advice/help/explanation of why there are many, why they are different, which may be best for you etc. (also requiring a jump-off page with extra info - although)

It strikes me that the goal here is to help developers and users favor browsers that "stay green", that is to say, auto-update and release quickly. It's an objective frame that enables progress, and if we prioritize the browsers we present on that basis, I think we can get to a reasonable ordering.
