This seems like a discussions thing more than an issue.

More importantly, how does your base under the sea (or on the moon) work without a power generator in the first place? (All the standard bases rely on the existing human power grid).

Anyhow, I agree that the diesel generator might need to go in favor of something else to ease a bit on the suspension of disbelief. I think we could just remove the diesel generator for the moon base at no loss - I am more concerned about the underwater bases, which are basically already not worth (or they weren't until we nerf'ed some of the techs to require higher safety levels to make the Ocean bases more useful)

I think if you’re questioning this, you gotta question everything else too. They just drop a couple bottles of compressed oxygen down there, too. Satisfied? I mean, how does the engine get down there anyway? Where does the diesel come from? And even where does the internet come from?

Maybe ai cuts in submarine fiber channels?

Submarines can have diesel engines, so it's gotta be possible, right?

Combustion engine submarines have to regularly surface to “breathe”. That’s why nuclear-powered subs are so “popular”. Please do some research before posting such comments.

Based on my limited knowledge on the subject, I see three underwater power generation possibilities :

  • Nuclear : Will probably give most power but could be expensive to build, fuel rods are required after certain years of use
  • Geothermal : Will provide less power than nuclear but slightly cheaper and requires no fuel
  • Wave power : The cheapest option with enough power to power a small base, also the least realistic as this technology is not yet confirmed to be viable
