seems to not recognize {{email}} in To: field
Hi, I am trying to use the current version of your plug-in and when I put {{email}} in the To field (that's a column header of my CSV), TB highlights it in red with the warning triangle and things don't work.
I was able to install Alexander Bergmann's Mail Merge and everything worked...
Can you post a screenshot? It is expected that the field gets highlighted in red, but the emails should still send.
Hi sorry for the delay. Here's what happens. It does seem to pull the emails correctly from the CSV, but it ignores the content of my message subject and body (replacing it with the "Hi i've got an offer for you" content), and adds deliverables to the "@guy.com" addresses.
What version of TB are you using?
Hi again, it's 115.10.1 (64-bit).
I am seeing the same thing - it actually seems to ignore the entire mail I typed, not just the "To" field, and just use the dummy "I've got an offer" default message instead?
I'm running 115.11.0 (64-bit) from Ubuntu 23.10.
One thing that is possibly related is that when I have a draft mail open and I click the "Mail merge P" icon, it actually fails to open a window more than half of the time. I see a window (border) pop on screen and then immediately disappear again. Clicking the button again often makes the window show up, but at least once I needed to try four times for the window to appear (and it never seems to work the first time).
I tried downgrading to 115.3.1 from Ubuntu Mantic, same result.
I tried copy-pasting a table, loading an ODS file or loading a CSV file, all with the same result.
I also tried ignoring the preview and just send the mail (maybe it is just the preview that is incorrect), but that stalls indefinitely:
Cancel in that popup also does not work, neither does cancel in the main Mail Merge P window (closing the window does help in both cases).
I tried looking at the developer console, here's what I see when I clear the console, then click the mail merge P icon, go to the preview tab and then look at the dev console again:
Fix / workaround
~~I managed to fix the issue by completely trashing my Thunderbird settings (kill all thunderbird processes, remove ~/.thunderbird and ~/.cache/thunderbird then restart thunderbird and configure it from scratch), so there was something in my old profile that messed this up. I did not actually actively use thunderbird before (I only configured the account and installed mail merge P today), so it was not a profile with a long history. I still have a backup of the profile, if anyone has any ideas on what to check...~~
~~Note that the issue with the window not always opening properly is still present, so that is probably unrelated.~~
Edit: Nope, did not actually stay working

Ok, scratch that - I saw a proper preview once or twice after trashing my thunderbird settings, but now it stopped working again (never got around to see if sending the mail actually works). Tried trashing my settings again - did not help. Tried creating a new simpler draft mail with just a single placeholder - did not help. :-S
I just published a new version. Can you see if it's working?
I no longer have a Thunderbird setup ready (I only set it up for mailmerge before and I now switched to something else for that), so do not count on me for testing this.
it does not replace {{email}} tag at all. thunderbird version: 128.7.1esr add on version: latest - i dont see any version

I use the latest Thunderbird and it works fine on my mac, but I need to press the Enter or Tab key after inserting {{email}} in the to field for it to take effect. The to field will then have a red background and a warning icon, indicating that Thunderbird doesn't recognize it as a valid email (which can be ignored since the email tag will be replaced if the merging succeeds).
