Should tonne have `t` as its short name?
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_ton, the tonne has a symbol of t, not ton. ton can also easily lead to confusion with the various other units all named "ton".
We have t for ton in Insect: https://github.com/sharkdp/insect/blob/6c3dd0e4308913a98fcbdad161c5c750974336d4/src/Insect/Parser.purs#L305-L307
Unfortunately, I don't remember why I reverted it here in this library: https://github.com/sharkdp/purescript-quantities/commit/558c85b9f17574d05249ebe61b2f66e8cd3ac812 Should have noted that in the commit message. Probably because I wanted it to display as "ton" in Insect, even if someone types t.
I'm happy to discuss this again. Actually might be in favor of changing it.
Well, a good way to avoid the confusion is to display it as "tonne" instead of "ton", as "tonne" refers unambiguously to a metric ton, unlike "ton". "Metric ton" can fulfill that role well too (arguably even better than "tonne"), but I lean a little towards "tonne." Both are fine by me though.
