Enable Edit Function

Open zo-shin opened this issue 6 years ago • 6 comments

It’s been nearly one year and a half since the edit function was disabled. I think it’s time to enable it, and the reasons are as follows: 1 - Disabling edit doesn’t solve anything. If the destroyer wants to ruin the database, they can make it simply by adding as many entries containing valid play links and trash names as possible, which has the same result of editing existing items. 2 - No one has been interested in ruining the database so far. As mentioned in article 1, if anyone wanted to do it, it should have happened. 3 - Disabling edit is against the initial purpose of the project. Now no one can help with the database. See https://github.com/segler-alex/radiobrowser-api-rust/issues/49 #181 #176 #154 #130 #121 #118 #99 #74

I agree with you to find a way to enable the edit function. Since I want some radio-stations to be up to date, I create new entries of existing stations. But this is only a workaround.

@segler-alex please, enable edit function. I have many stations without icons and I want to fix it but it's impossible now.

@segler-alex please, enable edit function.

I made a mistake when entering a new station (Radio CAFF). Since I was unable to edit the (wrong) streaming link, I added the new station a second time with the correct stream link. Now there are two entries (with the same name: CAFF). Hopefully the wrong one (with the broken stream link) gets deleted within three days due to the broken streaming link ...

I was also unable to enter the correct tag (tango), although it was offered during the registration, it did not show up in the station listing.

It probably isn't going to happen. Editing is not even implemented in the new Rust API.

I wonder what the problem is. Tie editing to GitHub accounts for example to make it more secure towards vandalism or allow editing like it was in the past just for stations that were automatically detected as broken. The current state is pretty unbearable and very detrimental to this awesome project.

@STPKITT It's explained here: https://github.com/segler-alex/radiobrowser-api-rust/issues/49
