Spam Error Message in Frontend
If a user wants to write several comments too often or too quickly, the form is not submitted. However, he does not receive an error message and wonders why the submission does not work.
Suggestion: Customizable error message.
"Failing silently" has its merits in spam protection (not giving spammers a hint how to change their behaviour, or even an indication that their submission didn't go through), but this indeed has a UX impact.
Thank you for the comment - evaluating how we deal with submissions failed due to triggering the "spam radar" could be evaluated further...
I understand. I can understand that very well. In this regard, I am also unsure how to deal with it.
We decided to go with frontend feedback when spam is detected. Let's see how this performs, but for now putting good user feedback before obscurity for spammers should take precedence.
If you are interested, the first beta of Commentions v2.0 is out now and any feedback or bug reports are most welcome!
@timhartmann I hope you don't mind me pinging you here in a slightly off-topic manner, but I'd like to draw your attention to my update that I am no longer able to maintain the Commentions plugin in the future → details here.
