[BUG] Number of tabs waking up today is inaccurate
Description
The extension icon shows the number of tabs waking up today. This information is also shown at the bottom of the pop-up, where it says "tabs waking up today - x". This number doesn't appear to be accurate.
Expected Behavior
The number shown should represent the number of tabs waking up today. (In my case, today, that's 82 tabs total. If I count the number of groups plus the number of individually waking tabs, it's 22. However the number showing on the pop-up is 26.)
Actual Behavior
The number shown doesn't seem to accurately reflect either the number of tabs waking today, or the number of groups plus the number of single tabs waking today.
How to Reproduce (if applicable)
- In settings, choose "waking up today" for "show badge on snoozz icon".
- View the extension icon and/or click on the icon and view at the information of the pop-up.
Your Device
Brave Browser, Macbook Air running Catalina.
Which Page
Popup
I guess the label is slightly misleading. Both the badge (on the icon) and the label inside the popup refer to the number of different things (whether a tab / group / window) waking up today.
I think I need to rethink what exactly is being displayed. Using your example, which number would be more useful for you? 82 or 22?
I'm really not sure how 26 is appearing at all. Are any of your tabs recurring? I'm unable to reproduce that specific part.
Ah, yes, the 26 includes four recurring tabs that are due to wake today.
It seems to me that showing the number of "events" waking today (i.e. individual tabs + groups - so 26 for me today) isn't especially useful, given what a huge variation could exist within that number. The number of actual tabs (82, or 86 including recurring tabs) gives the user a far better at-a-glance overview, imo. I think my own preference would be to exclude the recurring tabs, but I can see pros and cons to that, and I could live with the recurring tabs being included in the total.
Just texted a couple friends and they replied that they prefer knowing how many "events" will be triggered today. I'm leaning the same direction you are - knowing the total number of tabs that will open today.
I think I'll rewrite the current "Show badge on Snoozz icon" setting to allow user to choose what they want to see on the badge:
Show badge on Snoozz icon
- [x] Display the total number of tabs waking up today
- [ ] Add tabs snoozed inside windows / groups to the total
- [ ] Add recurring tabs to the total
- [ ] Add sleeping tabs that will be opened on a future date
Not sure which ones I will enable by default, but I think this will cover all possible use cases.
For full transparency, this feature is not high on my priority list. I am working on customising the popup UI (allowing users to configure their own choices) and then overhauling the settings page. I can't promise this is coming anytime soon, but it will be a useful addition when I finally get around to it
Your suggested solution sounds perfect. I understand that you've a roadmap so it might be a while, but I will look forward to the change. :-)
