Upgrade dependent libraries

Open ChengCat opened this issue 8 years ago • 5 comments

ibus-rime has no non-README commits since two years ago. Does it still work with the latest version of librime, ibus or other dependent libraries? If it does, please update ibus-rime to reflect that.

It works in Arch linux.

I am looking into contributing an ibus-rime package for NixOS. NixOS now has an ibus-libpinyin package, and I really hope rime can also be conveniently installed by NixOS users.

Could you please update the official repo, so that I don't have to patch it from downstream?

What do you do in your patch? librime has designed a backward compatible API for the same major version (currently 1.x). There is no need for ibus-rime to "keep up" with librime's minor version upgrades. If nothing is broken then it doesn't need an update.

I'd like to update the git submodules librime and brise, and make sure that the CMake files work with the latest version of libibus and libnotify. I consider submodule updates to be a modification, since the submodule versions are fixed by the git repo.

I understand ibus-rime currently works with any later version of librime and brise. However, for some repos, the repo owner may want to fix submodule versions to avoid compatibility issues. It is not always clear to a downstream user which submodule version is acceptable, and it is better left for the repo owner to decide.
