@dwdougherty everything i marked with the to-be-merged label needs to be merged (at least the ones i marked as such). there are probably many others that need to be merged, but skipping these ones would mean missing information for changes of the next version.

note however, that both these, as well as some PRs already merged, may need the version number fixed (so far they all mention 8.0)
