Steps to reproduce
I really don't know how to help diagnose what happens (nothing in eventvwr), and it was a very annoying bug which had me uninstall MSEdgeRedirect, so I'm not sure what version I had or the install mode. But here are what happened and steps to reproduce:
- Extremely probably version 0.7.5.3 installed
- Start a Steam game (It seems related to them having a launcher - I had the issue with The Witcher 3, and Deus Ex Mankind Divided)
- While the game is running in fullscreen, something will popup blank browsers (firefox in my case) every minute or so, putting the game in the taskbar (very annoying). Starting immediately when the game starts.
- During my experience with Witcher 3, it stopped after around 10 minutes or so every time.
- I had the very same experience with Deus Ex Manking Divided.
- As far as I can tell, games without a launcher don't do this
- I uninstalled MSEdgeRedirect and the problem stopped immediately.

Blank default browser windows were popping every minute or so.

My personal opinion is that these launchers have some logic to fetch URLs in the background.
It took me a long time to find out it is this tool as well. It opens tabs so frequently, that I thought someone hacked my PC.
@rcmaehl It also occurs with CS2 and Marvel Rivasls, so you don't have to buy any of those games. I think it is not driven by a specific game but a general issue.
I also noted, that I recently updated my Windows to a newer subversion which added some kind of iPhone file transfer system etc. They might have changed something with edge there.
I could imagine schouffy being correctg with fetching URLs in the background, howerver they are not imbedded executed as they should be but instead a blank tab opens in which nothing is registered.
This issue is very awful and I even tried removing MSEdgeRedirect with the PS Scripts, but unfortunately it still occurs..

I noticed it starting with Minecraft, but I've been playing a lot of games, so it may be something else. In the background running is EdgeGameAssist.exe, terminating (or suspending) the process gets the affected behavior to stop until it is relaunched by something. Looking at ProcExp, EGA is launched under SvcHost, but doesn't have a distinct service tied to it as far as I can tell. This has only started happening recently in my case.
I'll buy one of these games and look into this.
I'm amazed that you still don't own Witcher 3 at least :D
@rcmaehl : Perhaps you have an idea how I can delete MSEdgeRedirect so it doesnt always open the EdgeGameAssist? Im most likely sure, that this is due to the recent fairly big Windows Update.
Until EdgeGameAssist.exe is not affecting my gameplay anymore due to the tool I would like to uninstall it. I tried using your powershell script, but I think it is missing out something specific. Perhaps a registry entry? Im nut sure and unfortunately not so deep into finding out how I can get rid of it for now.
@pmastrosimone : I tried also terminating it, it seems to be relaunching itself with each time I open a new game.
Did this issue ever get resolved, as I am having this as well, with Assetto Corsa, and trying to Race with pop-ups is not that easy
