Not Installing
Hello Everyone,
Hope you are all well and gearing up for a super weekend.
I have been trying since yesterday, and failing, I hasten to add, to get the OBS Captions Plugin the work. I have tried adding to the OBS plugins folder in the way described on the instructions and to no avail. I have switched my computer on and off in the hopes that this would help it find a way to reinitialise OBS and add itself to the Tools menu but to no avail.
I was hoping to use this for a class I am teaching tomorrow but I have given up hope that will happen. I would love to get it up and running for my next class in a few weeks time.
I have tried everything short of uninstalling OBS and re-installing OBS, I have lots of scenes already built so I am not that keen to do that. Also, I am great at what I do and that has nothing to do with tech, so am a floundering a little with my limited computer skills.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
All the best

Hi, sorry haven't checked the issue here recently.
Maybe it copied into the wrong directory?
The obs_google_caption_plugin.dll file should effectively end up in C:\Program Files\obs-studio\obs-plugins\64bit\ assuming default OBS install location.
You also need to be on at least OBS 27 for it to work. You can also check OBS logs to see if it had any issues loading the plugin OBS Menu: Help -> Log Files -> Show Log Files
Hey Fabio,
I eventually set up Web Captions in my OBS scenes using this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYgD0qVYvzE
It was easy to set up and I can toggle it on and off.
The transcriptions are a bit of an issue and I have recently been in touch with them to see how I can amend the transcription and re-upload them to the video as well as look into getting the transcriptions translated into other languages and uploaded in the right place for the voice.
It is funny, one thing works, then another doesn’t but makes you want other things. Being a one man band who is not tech savvy is a bit of a headache 😊
Hope the vid helps you.
All the best

I installed it in the correct directory and it's not showing up in the TOOLS dropdown. I wonder if it's a combination of StreamElements Live and/or Windows 11? I remember using this maybe a year or two ago (I don't stream, I just play with OBS) and it worked fine. The two things I changed were the OS and adding SE OBS Live.
Second Edit: I was testing on my Media Center PC which is Windows 10, and it worked fine...AFTER an update. I came back to my streaming PC...lo and behold, an update came in and guess what started working?
SO...if you believe you have done everything according to instructions...try updating to v28.0.1 (it will probably do it automatically) and maybe it will start working for you.
So I left this problem for a bit, as I have realised, not being a techie, that sometimes hardware and software seem to need some time, sometimes, to connect. I came back to it a month later, uninstalled both OBS and the Captions Plugin. Left it for a few days, reinstalled them across a 4 day span and they connected up and began working.
Unfortunately this is NOT what I needed the close captions for. My aim was to have the closed captions on the bottom of the screen as I was teaching using OBS as a Virtual Camera in a Zoom environment and this did not do that, or maybe it does and I just cant figure it out. In the end I connected to Web Captioner, added a diminished Window Capture Screen on all my scenes and that is working fine. For the most part.
If you are struggling I hope this helps you in some way.
