Hmm I think there are two issues then. For me, this happens before any bootloader starts. Similar to what @hapm describes.

You could maybe try to boot to a tty (i.e. not do a graphical boot). Maybe something gets printed that can help us out. Maybe also temporarily remove the `quiet`...

Alright. I guess `journalctl -b -1` on the next successful boot after a hang doesn't yield anything either, that's probably not even been started yet. Which kernels does this happen...

Hmm, I don't think I have the same issue as you are experiencing, for me this happens before the bootloader starts. I'll give it a try with SMT off anyways....
