MacOS: There is no option to disable download speed notifications in the Dock

Open teinett opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

qBittorrent & operating system versions

  • os: MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1
  • installed from installer
  • chip: Apple M2 Pro.
  • app: qBittorrent 4.6.4 (64-bit)

What is the problem?

Dock panel displays the download speed while files are downloading.

Problem: the download speed is constantly changing, which means the numbers on top of the application icon are changing. This is very distracting when working on another application while downloading a file.

I was looking for an option to disable these download speed notifications in the Dock:

  • basic MacOS settings, but there is no application qBittorrent in the list of all apps;
  • settings of the application itself.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find these settings.

If these settings exist, show me a place in the menu to disable these notifications, please.

If these settings do not exist, add this setting, please.

I second this. This is extremely annoying and can't find any option to disable it. How was it overlooked?

A nice feature. Would agree having option to turn off and on is preferable.

Yes, this is driving me crazy as well. I will say that using 4.6.7, I don't have the download speed appearing in Dock, but with any 5.x version, the download/upload speed appear and there doesn't seem to be a way to remove them. For this reason, I've been sticking with 4.6.7.

Same for me, and also it would be nice to remove the icon from the dock.

By the way, I have found the offending folder here: https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/tree/master/src/gui/macosdockbadge

It seems to contain the code which is displaying the download and upload speed in the dock. However, I'm not sure how to disable it, I kind of want to see if I could delete the files and references and rebuild the application locally.

@Kolcha Any plans for follow up PR's as per https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/pull/19595#issue-1890961756?

I don't have mac anymore to work on some mac-specific tasks. I didn't have personal MacBook for a long time (since the end of 2021 at least), but had the one from work, but now I changed the job and don't have MacBook anymore. sorry.
