Open torrent file in 4.6.1 doesn't open Add torrent dialog

Open woj-tek opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

qBittorrent & operating system versions

qBittorrent: 4.6.1 Qt: 6.4.3 Libtorrent: 1.2.19.0 Boost: 1.83.0 OpenSSL: 1.1.1w zlib: 1.2.12

What is the problem?

There is no "Open torrent dialog" after opening .torrent file after upgrading to 4.6.1

Steps to reproduce

Download any .torrent file (e.g. https://fosstorrents.com/thankyou/?name=opensuse-tumbleweed&cat=Installation&id=0&hybrid=0) and open it. In previous versions I would just get "Open torrent dialog", after upgrading to 4.6.1 qB only flashes it's window / brings to focus without opening "Add torrent dialog".

What was the previous version from which you upgraded to v4.6.1?

How exactly do you do it? Have you configured your browser to open .torrent files using qBittorrent? Or do you just save them in some folder and then manually add them to qBittorrent by clicking them in the file manager? Is the qBittorrent window open, minimized to the taskbar, or hidden in the tray before you add a torrent?

qBittorrent & operating system versions, please.

My bad: macOS Sonoma 14.1.1

(btw. could it be copied from "about page"? and the copy link could also include qBT version as well?)

4.6.0

Yes, that was the usual way. I configured qBT to handle magnet links / torrent files to open directly.

Or do you just save them in some folder and then manually add them to qBittorrent by clicking them in the file manager?

I tried that too (from Finder, i.e. "file explorer") and the result is the same.

Is the qBittorrent window open, minimized to the taskbar, or hidden in the tray before you add a torrent?

It was minimised. After a bit of tinkering it seems it doesn't work if qBT is running (doesn't matter the state - visible/hidden/minimised). It DOES work if qBT is not running (opening the file be that from browser or file explorer, causes qBT to launch)

Does it work correctly if you open torrent using qBittorrent menu?

glassez avatar Nov 23 '23 16:11 glassez

Yes, if I use "Open torrent file" (or second icon in toolbar) the add window shows up just fine.

woj-tek avatar Nov 23 '23 17:11 woj-tek

Yeah, I can confirm, when I open torrent file in macOS 14.1.1 (23B81) - it just opens qBittorrent but doesn't add the torrent itself

Hmm... I just tested on a clean install. I opened a .torrent file one time from Finder and one time from Safari. Both times it displayed the "Add New Torrent" dialog. What's the state of your setting: Preferences->Downloads->Display torrent content and some options?

If enabled: disable it, save preferences and then re-enable it. Does the problem persist?

It should be enabled due to the following comments above:

Yes, if I use "Open torrent file" (or second icon in toolbar) the add window shows up just fine.

And it doesn't seem to be a matter of dialog:

when I open torrent file in macOS 14.1.1 (23B81) - it just opens qBittorrent but doesn't add the torrent itself

If it just skips dialog (due to disabled option) it would still add torrent.

Is there any chance you guys are running a multimonitor setup? Maybe the dialog opens in some weird place or offscreen. Maybe try the equivalent of Alt+Tab on macOS?

I had it enabled (display torrent… + bring dialogue to the front…). I disabled it, restart of qBT, enable, restart. It seems to be working fine now.\

I do have multi-monitor setup and I checked it before and it wasn't showing up at all on neither screen. It simply wasn't there - there is a macOS option to show all windows from given app and it only showed main window.

Same issue with v4.6.5. Toggling Display torrent content and some options with restarts in between did not produce any results.

P.S. Dialog window shows fine when .torrent file opened with qbittorrent closed (not minimized).
