PEP 541 Request: carina
Project to be claimed
PROJECT_NAME: https://pypi.org/project/carina
Your PyPI username
USER_NAME: https://pypi.org/user/matpi
Reasons for the request
Hi,
I created a new project called carina and wanted to publish it on PyPI. Doing so I got the error HTTP Error 403: The user 'matpi' isn't allowed to upload to project 'carina'. See https://pypi.org/help/#project-name for more information..
I tried to understand where the conflict comes from based on the PyPI help page but could not find a definitive answer:
- AFAIK no package in the standard library was named such.
- Existing projects with close names:
- https://pypi.org/project/jupyterhub-carina/ Last updated 7 years ago. The repo (https://github.com/jupyter/jupyterhub-carina) is marked retired and archived. Worse, the service it appears to refer to (getcarina.com) is inactive and has visibly been namejacked.
- https://pypi.org/project/carinata/ Last updated 10 years ago. Not clear to me whether the name would be considered "too close".
- https://pypi.org/project/nebula-carina/ Last updated 1 year ago. The fact that that package is part of the nebula ecosystem makes the name distinction quite clear IMhO.
- Explicit prohibition: I don't think so.
- Already registered without releases: not sure how to check that, but at least there's no public package with the same name.
I'd be glad to know which project mine is considered to clash with, and have mine accepted if it is confirmed that there's no high risk of confusion with another active project.
Thanks in advance!
