Organising project comms

Open mrchristian opened this issue 6 years ago • 12 comments

My suggestion for my next contribution to the Open Climate Knowledge project is to work out a plan for the next steps in communicating the project, in an agile bite size way, so just a few next steps. Then rinse repeat.

I'll write out some ideas here https://demo.codimd.org/VrRq3-_QQ2eNVQiVAYNgbA?view

In no particular order:

  • Create website with Jekyll GitHub pages
  • Short project description: about, attribution
  • Populate repositories with standard open project docs: CoC, Contribute, licence, etc.
  • Short presentation
  • Guide of how to use OpenNotebook: which also means understanding the OpenNotebook functionality, outputs, etc. :-)
  • Guide for groups wanting to use OCK to add to or create new dictionaries
  • Roadmap
  • Define and document process for a dictionary/search so we have a solid base to work
  • Confirming our initial short term goals for this stage: build project comms; dictionary on 'runaway climate change'; invite others to use.
  • Produce a paper

That's more then enough...

I'm back in Cambridge now and fairly free for several days...

That's an excellent Idea. We did that for our other knowledge extraction project and it worked very well. We had over 100 issues - some are closed but many are still open. If you don't worry about having unclosed issues (I don't) then it works well. It's useful to have someone who enjoys tying up loose ends and brutally closing when necessary.

Naming issues is important - it should be clear from each title what is required and if the conversation drugs, create a new issue

So each of the following should be an issue: I'll comment on each within its own issue.

These are great and about the right granulariry for issues .

I will set up an issue for our Wed presentation to Sidcot School. It has photos and a powerpoint. It's a great introduction for 12-18 yr olds. P.

I'll move the list onto a MD page in this repo and add a few more things, of course :-). First being multilingual

Have made quite a lot of progress... I think we need to talk... What's your schedule today?

I've made a start at a reorganised README.md homepage for the project, you can see it here on this GitHub Gist page, I'll use this as a notepad until ready to commit to the main repo.

https://gist.github.com/mrchristian/37bc9688a264aef008264e962094390a

My plan is to give a very brief description with a diagram on this README page of how openNotebook works and what you get as a result. Then to make sure that all the things listed in the page have linked pages with short descriptions to very basically cover what is needed, including:

  • Instructions for installing and use (link to what exists and give quick check)
  • About
  • Methods
  • Roadmap
  • Code of Conduct
  • Contribute
  • Licencing
  • Imprint

There is probably more, but this will do for now.

I'll get the methods notes written up today.
