A new icon for telegrand
Hello everyone! I feel that the actual icon does not fit very well on the desktop with other apps because:
- I can't recognize well what is that (my friends think that is a nose)
- it don't appears to be a telegram client
- There is no color. Normally the apps are asociated to a specific color
- The paper airplanes don't fly with that sharp... xd
- Is strange to see a no-color app surrounded by full color apps
So, to solve that problem, I made an icon that is much more familiar to the existing telegram users.

here is the SVG telegrand.svg.gz
Hope you accept it
Thanks for all of your work!
Putting icons into a shapes (like squares or circles) tends to make them harder to distinguish from each other, and is considered a design error from an accessibility POV. Because of that, I'm don't think this is an improvement.

That doesn't apply when we're talking about one icon. I agree the new one looks a lot more like Telegram. I wonder if it should be circle though - given the Telegram one is circlular.
First of all, thanks @germe-deb for the interest on this! I totally see your points and I agree with most of them, most specifically about the color: Telegram clients are already recognized by their official logo, so there's already an association of the iconic blue color and ofc the paper plane. So having an icon like that will surely make it more look like a Telegram client.
Honestly I really like the circular version and it indeed fixes most of the problems with the actual icon. The only concern is that having an icon with a shape like that might seem a bit weird compared to other GNOME apps, but... actually lately I'm seeing more and more apps having a similar concept for their icons (App Icon Preview, Contrast, Emblem, Commit, Metadata Cleaner) and IMHO they look all really great, so I don't think it's a problem.
So... overall I think it's a really great icon and I might want to merge that, but for now I'd like to collect a bit more opinion on this.
i have fixed a very small problems with the circle icon (illumination, sizes) and here is the updated version:

So in general we recommend using unique shapes, as this makes icons easier to distinguish and just more interesting overall. That's not a hard rule of course, and it's fine for some apps to have buttonized icons though if it makes sense.
In this particular case it might make sense to keep it buttonized, since you're otherwise left with just a white/light gray paper plane icon. No strong opinion on square vs. circle as long as they're using the usual icon grid shapes :)
Also, I'd maybe try dropping the shadow on the plane, not sure it's needed.
@melix99 @bertob @germe-deb @Exalm What do you say to this version?

I don't like it... It is not adwaita, and looks very generic
i have talked with melix on the telegrand tg chat about the icon, he made a small modifications:

I personally think that this is good.

@Exalm Telegram downloaded from https://telegram.org/android (non-gapps versions) is a square

We could also preserve the unique color while making it blue:

Granted, my implementationt looks a bit bland.
There are discussions about other ideas and suggestions in #64 and in the group chat as well.

That's an "adaptive icon" - its shape depends on what your OEM decided. By default they are all square, Pixel makes them all circles etc. But that's an Android thing. Everywhere else - incl on Linux and also on iOS which is all about rounded squares - Telegram is a circle.

The basis of the icon is a standard for GNOME applications. Take a look at the Mousai and GNOME Clocks icons
Well, I guess some more iteration is needed :p
While I agree that the metaphor is maybe not as strong and the icon is somewhat washed out, I'm opposed to slapping it on a bedsheet, not to mention that it doesn't make it distinct enough from Telegram.
not to mention that it doesn't make it distinct enough from Telegram
True, but is that really a bad thing? It would make the app more recognizable as a Telegram client.

IMHO yes. Telegrand is a client for Telegram, but Telegrand is not Telegram. We want to hint that it's compatible/interchangeable with Telegram while still being distinct.
Thing that will better differentiate the current icon is using a simple line of folding when something is folded. Compare Maps icon to this one & you'll see the difference.
Maybe a darker shade of white can be used for the text background part, and than make text part the same color as normal white widely used for the current icon.
