Charlieboard-bicolor brd file

Open salmansheikh opened this issue 6 years ago • 12 comments

Hello,

When I open it in Eagle, it says Dont forget change dimension circle to 0.5642. Do I need to modify the pcb? And when I uploaded the 2 layer board to osh-park, I got this. Is this okay to order and will work correctly? charlie-watch-bilcolor

I believe that the file you've uploaded won't work. You'll need to use either "routed.brd" or "routed-norf.brd" for a file that works I think.

Opening "charliewatch-bicolor.brd" shows that there are still a lot of airwires in that file. Looking at the photo you've attached -- it definitely looks like it's missing traces.

Oh no. I uploaded and ordered the board from osh-Park. Oh well $6.45 for 3 coasters. 😂. I will do it again.

What is the difference between the routed and routed-norf in capability? Are you using any of the rf capabilities of the chip?

The routed version breaks out pins for the wireless antenna. The routed-norf version doesn’t, but they are otherwise identical iirc.

I’m not personally using any rf stuff in my version, I don’t think it’s that interesting. :)

The LEDS making the seconds or minutes vs hours look like 2 different sizes. Also, what are the crystal values..I don't see them on the schematic.

salmansheikh avatar Sep 01 '19 11:09 salmansheikh

The LEDs on the routed boards are all 0603 surface mount LEDs. On the bicolor file, the minute LEDs are https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/kingbright/APHB1608SYKSURKC/754-1855-1-ND/4977027

The crystal used is (I believe) https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/iqd-frequency-products/LFXTAL050789REEL/1923-1583-1-ND/8634325

@osresearch could you confirm that that is the proper crystal?

pomeroyb avatar Sep 01 '19 22:09 pomeroyb

I've ordered some PCBs as a fun group build for the local maker space and am starting to order the components but I'm also stuck on the xtal and would appreciate confirmation of the part used.

The crystal is in the email above but also available from Mouser at

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/449-LFXTAL050789CUTT

And repeated here from the previous post by pomeroyb on this issue:

https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/iqd-frequency-products/LFXTAL050789REEL/1923-1583-1-ND/8634325

I found LEDs to be cheaper at mouser. I have 3 components here (LED, chip and crystal). Need to get the rest of the passives from the schematic and add them. Price is around $38 for 3 so far, it was like $58 for equivalent from digikey using inolux LEDs..

Also, there is no part value for C1-C4 (size 0603 is all that is shown in the charliewatch.sch which I think corresponds with routed.brd) and also missing is the 2nd crystal X1's values.

Sorry for not catching this one earlier -- I just received a notification for the recent comment, but had missed the earlier questions.

The bi-color board is not finished. I haven't found decent bicolor 0603 LEDs, so that part of the project stopped. The routed-norf is the most recent and works well.

The crystal I used is https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/ABS07-120-32.768KHZ-T/535-11937-1-ND/3724046

And the orange LEDs are 2V forward voltage, 160 millicandela https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/LO+Q976-PS-25-0-20-R18/475-2486-1-ND/1802613

I'm a horrible EE and there are no caps on the board, just a pull up resistor on the reset line.

I had the routed.brd built. How is that different from the norf version?

The v0.1 (routed.brd) is slightly larger than the v0.2 (routed-norf.brd) and doesn't have a button on the bottom. The RF parts were never assembled or tested.

For time and mode setting you can use a jumper wire on the RX pin. There is a define in button.c to remap it as the input button: https://github.com/osresearch/charliewatch/blob/master/firmware/button.c#L11
