Question on compatibility
Hey @osheroff, Gunnar here from the Debezium team. I just learned about this fork of Shyiko's connector, which he recommends instead of his abandoned one. Are you planning to maintain this in the long run? There seem to be quite a few commits since Shyiko's version, is it still a drop-in replacement we could "just" use in Debezium?
Lastly, a more broadly-scoped question: would you perhaps be interested in making maintenance of this a joint effort, potentially within the debezium organization on GitHub?
All the Best,
--Gunnar
Hi @gunnarmorling, nice to meet you. Will go through the questions.
Are you planning to maintain this in the long run?
Yes, with the proviso that most of the active development will be geared towards supporting features and fixing bugs that Maxwell needs. I'm happy to do general maintenance task / code-review / etc for the library in an abstract fashion, but Maxwell is the place where i can really drive any new features from.
is it still a drop-in replacement we could "just" use in Debezium?
Yeah, I don't think I've broken any sem-ver contracts, and the latest release of this library is in production w/ maxwell. so you should be fine pulling it in.
Lastly, a more broadly-scoped question: would you perhaps be interested in making maintenance of this a joint effort,
That sounds great!
potentially within the debezium organization on GitHub?
let's see how the collaboration goes. If you guys end up taking on the bulk of the maintenance work I'll be happy to transfer the repo over to you guys, if I end up doing most of the work I'd just as soon keep it under my own masthead.
~~Are you currently publishing the new releases of this to maven central or any other repository by chance?~~
I found the answer to my question, its published under com.zendesk. Thanks!
