Trouble with email contact
Dear all,
I reached out to the email that is mentioned on the website ([email protected]) to inquire about a submission but didnt hear back. Is this the wrong email to get in touch or should I use some other means of communication?
Best, Simon
@musall Probably it is just hard to keep up with the email. What is your question? Perhaps I can help answer or connect you with someone to answer here.
@kthyng I’m experiencing the same issue. I reached out to [email protected] about a week ago but haven’t received a response yet. I’m contacting you regarding a submission I sent approximately six weeks ago. I haven’t received any updates, and it doesn’t appear to have entered the pre-review phase.
All the Best, Alessandro
Please post the titles of the submissions here.
@danielskatz Kindly find the title below: Arcade: An urban building energy modeling tool featuring AI for input data enrichment
Dear Kristen,
I was inquiring about submission for a software that is now integrated into a larger toolbox. Here is a link to the pull request where we integrated the code: https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface/pull/2918
We have also created extensive documentation (https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorials_custom_index.html#automated-curation-tutorials, https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api.html#spikeinterface.curation.auto_label_units and https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api.html#spikeinterface.curation.train_model) and tests already (https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface/blob/main/src/spikeinterface/curation/tests/test_model_based_curation.py and https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface/blob/main/src/spikeinterface/curation/tests/test_train_manual_curation.py).
Specifically, if wanted to ask if there is a preference in which repository the manuscript should be placed before starting a submission. We could create a side-branch for the submission in the spike interface package, since the module is now fully implemented in this toolbox and we expect most users to use it this way. I also wondered if such a branch would be temporary or should be maintained to host the manuscript later on.
Best, Simon
@amaccarini Yes I see it hasn't been initiated yet. This is a busy time of year for people whose semesters are ending, plus we're putting time into onboarding new editors to improve this in the future, cc @kyleniemeyer
@musall We have a precedent for reviewing parts of larger packages. I don't recall there being a special way of doing it other than being really clear for the editor and reviewers about what is part of the review and what isn't. If everything is in SpikeInterface, easiest is probably if the manuscript can go there, but we sometimes have them in different repos I think. The manuscript can be in a branch and doesn't need to be present later since the paper would be archived with the JOSS submission.
@kthyng Thanks a lot for the update! I was mainly asking about the status because I noticed that some papers submitted more recently than mine already appear on the active submissions page (https://joss.theoj.org/papers/active), so I was a bit concerned that my submission might have been overlooked. But now that I know it’s in the system, I’ll just wait patiently. Thanks again for your help!

Different tracks run at different rates, depending on people's availability.
@danielskatz Good to know, thanks for the info!
Hi @danielskatz I know this is probably a busy time as the new semester starts! I just wanted to enquire about a paper I submitted a couple a weeks ago, it seems it hasn't entered the pre-review process yet? Is there anything else needed on my side?
Hi - it's a busy time for multiple reasons, one in my opinion being that AI has made it easy to submit almost any software to JOSS, whether it's really suitable or not. Additionally, we're in the process now of bringing on more editors.
I do see your submission in our system. You don't need to do anything more. Please continue to be patient.
Hi @danielskatz I hope everything's fine on your side. I'm enquiring again about our submission PathView: A Graphical User Interface for System Simulation, would you be able to provide a rough timeline for when the review process will start? I should be able to suggest at least one reviewer if this can help?
Thanks again!
This is not in my track, so I can't really say. I'll ask the track editor to get back to you though.
@danielskatz thanks for this! If you give me the contact details of the track editor I'm keen on getting in touch with them directly to save you the trouble!
You can find track editors listed in https://joss.theoj.org/about
@danielskatz to be honest I don't even know what track our submission is in... :(

Thanks! I'll drop an email to @kyleniemeyer then
