Problems connecting to Google. Turns out some CURL defaults need changing

OpenRest.eu created a patch which fixed using Google for OpenID on my machine:

Although this is great solution for dev, something to consider before applying the patch: http://hueniverse.com/2010/09/oauth-bearer-tokens-are-a-terrible-idea/

Perhaps there should be a config so that you can change the SSL settings for testing but not in production. (Note: I still need to reread the Hueniverse article, I only skimmed it but wanted to make sure to report it here before the latest fire pulls me in a new direction).
