Thanks & Best

Hi @tbugfinder - we're still considering our options.

Internally we are mulling around with the idea of dropping postgres from our helm chart and guiding users to set up their own.

This would help avoid issues like us having to work around postgres version migrations or being stuck on older versions because we can't.

That said, these are just some opinions, we're looking for more internal and external feedback. We want to be very vigilant in terms of not breaking anyone's flow.

We'll post here as we have our internal discussions. But please feel free to suggest your own options and feedback, we'll definitely be taking it into consideration.

These related issues are blocked b/c us upgrading postgres from underneath users could cause a lot of breakage:

Well, typically in a production environment, managed databases of cloud providers might be preferred. However for getting started a ready to use integrated helm chart is beneficial.

For few cases heavier clustered PostgreSQL (Patroni) might be helpful.

Hi @tbugfinder, thanks for opening this GH issue to call attention to the conversation. I'm posting a couple of links from a team member internally for context:

An open question to all... Is the quickest short-term solution just to point to Bitnami Legacy org as the Docker article suggests?

Unsupported legacy fallback. Older images are moved to a “Bitnami Legacy Registry”, available on Docker Hub in the bitnamilegacy org. These images are unsupported, will no longer receive updates or patches, and are intended to be used while making plans for alternatives.

We got around this by overriding the values for the Helm chart:

postgresql:
  image:
    registry: docker.io
    repository: bitnamilegacy/postgresql
    tag: 15.4.0-debian-11-r45
