There was a request in the slack channel to produce a new release. This issue is to track and discuss this.

This was discussed at the 22-Jul-2024 working group meeting and there were no objections, one question did come up around whether this release would be useful without the spec change about the configuration API for instrumentation

I'm in favor of merging a couple of the outstanding PRs, and then cutting a release.

Thinking:

  • #115 - significant change that causes churn. The sooner we make the cut the better.
  • #122 - OTLP headers equivalent of the support we already have for OTEL_RESOURCE_ATTRIBUTES. Makes sense to bundle these changes together.
  • #118 - key feature for collector.
  • #104 - Now that we have an increasing number of examples, keeping the property descriptions aligned is increasingly important for implementers and users.
