✏️ [ FEAT REQ ] UI Design for tall screen

Open Wendigogo opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? If so, please describe the problem. I'm using a tall device (as many smartphones nowadays) and I can't reach the top of my screen with my thumb. So I can't use the search function or see pinned contacts conversations with one hand from "homepage".

Describe the feature you'd like I'd like Quik to have the same behavior as OneUI or Google Message on "Homepage". Here's an (old) example of OneUI to show what I say : one-ui-messages-100788577-large The right part is what you got when you launch the app (what I call "Homepage") or when you scroll down conversations. The left part is what you got when you scroll up conversations.

With that, you can reach the search and settings buttons and all conversations (even pinned ones) with one hand.

I hope to see that kind of improvement on Quik someday.

Hi, I understand your need but I think this is more of an Android feature than an app feature.

If you have Android 12 or higher, you can use the one hand mode : https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/12652418?hl=en

That makes sens?

@lascapi : One Hand Mode could be a workaround, but it is nothing more. So, Imo, it's not a real solution.

Some drawbacks I see :

  • Android 12+ requirement is not met by every device
  • Many other apps already include this behavior and some uniformity is always a good point
  • One Hand Mode reduces the whole screen making everything tiny : text, keyboard, shortcuts etc. So it's harder to read and write things and, unfortunately, it's the main point of Quik. 😉

I agree that could be part of some guidelines of Android UI but, whereas Google (and Samsung at least) follow this code design I don't think it is.
