Yes, your latest releases are nothing but chaotic rubbish. Please stop, organise and THEN release it properly @octoshrimpy

And the version name mismatch with the tag name. Could you please bump the version name and attach the apk?

This new 4.0.11 release is impressive! Where could we get the apk please ?

Github is still on 4.0.7 and in the github release section here, the assets are source code only.

Thank you so much for all the hard work and contributions

Do I get it right if I read this as you volunteering to be release coordinator?

@HarriBuh I'm very new to this (as you can see from my github history), and am dealing with this very bad GPU bug that basically causes my computer to hard-crash randomly. I recommend reading it.

If you know how to do proper releases and setup the ymls for it, then please go ahead and send in a PR. I am but a humble volunteer as is everyone else here. Everything here is free and built out in the open. I am doing my best. If you feel that is not enough and you know how to do it better, I (and the community) welcome your help.

not closing this issue because the root issue persists.

octoshrimpy avatar Feb 09 '25 13:02 octoshrimpy

@zer0fl0w I've manually grabbed the apk from GH actions and uploaded it to the release.

not closing this issue as the root problem persists: auto-deployment with incrementing patch version on master PR, and manual version on manual release or tag commit

@snaggen You, getting butthurt from criticism of another man's work is kinda irritating to me, tbh. There's nothing wrong with my post at all. So please, get along.

@octoshrimpy No need to take criticism aimed at your work personally. That's your own weakness, not mine. There has been a lot of chaos in this repo and all I did was ask for clean-up.

For some reason I'm not surprised that you find things irritating.... I guess that happens a lot in your life based on the tone on your post.

But I assume you are right, it is perfectly fine of you to think other people are obligated to spend their spare time providing you with things you like. And it is completely unreasonable of me to imply that you could participate in getting the things you like.

So, continue to be a spoiled child and throw tantrums when people doesn't give you your latest toys fast enough.

snaggen avatar Feb 09 '25 14:02 snaggen

@octoshrimpy Please fix the version name. The tag is 4.0.11 but the version is 4.0.10-beta.

linsui avatar Feb 09 '25 15:02 linsui

@snaggen While you obviously feel obliged to act a my superior, I think your own tone and attitude is the real issue here. Nobody asked for your help or opinion on my original post - which was 100% app related while yours was simply targeted at my person. Now, think again: Who's the clown here? Stop wasting my and everybody else's time and get lost. Or go troll somewhere else. And welcome to my personal ignore list.

Let's behave, please. I'm here to help keep an app alive, not babysit. we are all humans.

@HarriBuh, please take your own advice:

@octoshrimpy Could we upload the apk inside the ci flow and dont do a pre-release everytime something got merged ? I think it makes the release tab harder to navigate.

Thank you for keeping this app alive :D

vnghia avatar Feb 10 '25 15:02 vnghia

@vnghia that's a good idea. would people still need to dig through actions to get that apk? or is there a simpler path to grab it?

octoshrimpy avatar Feb 10 '25 15:02 octoshrimpy

People will have to go through actions to get the apks but it is fine because once the release pipeline correctly uploads the release-optimized and signed apks, they will be the only apks most people care about.

vnghia avatar Feb 10 '25 16:02 vnghia

sounds good. I think I got it correctly. Won't close this until verified.

octoshrimpy avatar Feb 10 '25 16:02 octoshrimpy

looks good to me. thanks.

(only proper version-tag inside apk is still messy, i.e. v4.0.11 is installed as v4.0.10-beta)

zer0fl0w avatar Feb 10 '25 17:02 zer0fl0w

Correct. I'm looking to see if it's possible to update that on github build, so I can trigger releases from github web, since I still can't do much from home PC.

octoshrimpy avatar Feb 10 '25 18:02 octoshrimpy

👍

zer0fl0w avatar Feb 10 '25 18:02 zer0fl0w

Wow, seeing some hostility here for what's basically a FREE, open source, and ad-free app. 😮 Let's be nice and kind to the app maintainer. It's volunteer work, we should be grateful and respectful to @octoshrimpy

Anyway, yes. I also noticed the version number in Settings is 4.0.10-beta.

I'll try to take a look at the release yaml files @octoshrimpy. I have some previous experience doing Android app releases. It should be possible to build a release using GitHub Actions. I have done it before.

Loving the super simple no-frills app btw. Minor issues and features I'd hope can be improved, but amazing that this is open source, ad-free and so good! I'm tired of Google Messages - several, several reports, and they don't do sh💩t.
