Missing Microsoft Publisher

Open RGFTheCoder opened this issue 4 years ago • 8 comments

The current theme seems to be missing a few ms-office icons: ~~Access (can be replaced with the database icon, but doesn't match word, ppt, and excel)~~ ~~Teams (~also seems to be hardcoded? Im having trouble changing it~ It was a permission issue)~~ Publisher (currently replaced with the printer app icon, but it doesn't fit well.)

Should likely use the ms-publisher name.

I have the apps working courtesy of WinApps

Hi, from the look of those icons you are using an outdated version of our theme. We recently introduced new icons, please cf. #5458. Please update and report back if the problem persists. In order to fix your issue we need to know the icon names to be found inside the respective .desktop launcher files.

I'm currently on kubuntu 20.10 with the latest version of all 5 numix packages installed, but I only seem to get the new icons when using numix square. If I set the icons manually in numix square, they show up as ? in numix circle

The icon names that I manually set are the ms-powerpoint ms-word ms-excel and so on. By default they use a custom monocolor icon provided by WinApps which looked out of place

And publisher still doesn't exist

@RGFTheCoder The version you're running is definitely out of date because those apps which are appearing like Word are using a design that we retired in May. There's a couple of different things that could be happening here:

  1. If you're using the Ubuntu 20.10 distro packages then it's out of date by about a year.
  2. If you're using the 20.10 PPA packages then those might be out of date, I'm not sure when they version got an update.

There are ways to get the latest version on 20.10 (I do that for 20.04 on my work computer), but at this point I'd recommend just updating your Ubuntu install since 20.10 is within 2 weeks of EOL.

For Publisher, you're right we don't have an icon! Our convention for Windows apps is that we'll only do them if their request is "seconded" 5 times (started in #1086). If we opened the floodgates to any windows program then that'd be 1000s on 1000s of new icons to add, so we try only to cover the most popular ones. That said if someone comes along and makes an icon for it we'll still merge it in :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the notice about EOL I just finished upgrading (and fixing) my system. Apparently the ppa has outdated icons for numix-circle only with the last update being september 2020 (compared to square which had an update a week ago):

numix-blue-gtk-theme is already the newest version (20.10.5).
numix-gtk-theme is already the newest version (2.6.7-5).
numix-icon-theme-circle is already the newest version (20.09.19-1).
numix-icon-theme-square is already the newest version (21.07.01+202107012217~ubuntu21.04.1).
numix-icon-theme is already the newest version (20.03.20+202005141736~ubuntu20.10.1).

@RGFTheCoder Thanks for flagging about Circle, will try and check what's happening there!

Will keep this open to track publisher :)

@RGFTheCoder Can you please attach the original MS Publisher icon?
