Syntax highlighting for QPlaintextedit

I was hoping to create a simple editor with syntax highlighting using QPlaintextedit. However, I can't see any support for the syntax highlightning described here. Is this not possible at the moment?

Do you see any possible workarounds or is this a dead end currently?
