-1, this denies the purpose and beauty of Markdown.

+1

this denies the purpose and beauty of Markdown.

It doesn't. Considering that there's still no standard and so many extension, the aspect of the "beauty" is arguable :)

@aadrian If you think so then don’t use Markdown. ;) Wiki syntaxes, and especially Markdown, was invented for simple formatting of plain text without need of crappy WYSIWY(N)G editors. When you feel the need for a WYSIWYG editor, then this particular syntax fails on its basic purpose and it doesn’t have sense to use it for you IMHO.

It’s not true that there’s no standard for Markdown. There is one, “the original Markdown”, which defines basic syntax elements. There’s just no single standard for extensions.

I’m sorry for this little flame, I’m just hate how some people tends to force crappy WYSIWYG everywhere…

... crappy WYSIWYG everywhere

How do you know that what @nicoulaj will make will be "crappy"?

Notice: This plugin is no more maintained and it has been removed from Jetbrains plugins repository. There is a Markdown plugin officially supported by Jetbrains.
