Great question. I don't remember :) Looking at Cmd_AddToPlaylist ( https://github.com/nicolasbrailo/VlcFreemote/blob/master/app/src/main/java/com/nicolasbrailo/vlcfreemote/vlc_connector/Cmd_AddToPlaylist.java), it would seem to be possible to add a URI, however I doubt it'll work out of the box...
