[Feature request] Split keyboard

I daily drive Pop!_OS on my 2-in-1. Tablet mode works fairly well on it, with one exception... The 16" screen size is really nice except for when you're trying to type on an absolutely massive keyboard, and your thumbs can only easily reach for ~20-30% of the area needed to type. I have no idea how difficult this would be, but being able to maybe change the size of the keys and split the keyboard like so would make this way more usable:

This is not something I would likely work on anytime soon, but feel free to take a stab at it and submit a PR.

I wouldn’t mind it but I use Budgie so already this extension doesn’t work so I can’t really test it or dog food it :/. Love how this app looks & functions still.
