Good question...maybe? I think we could do it but it'd have to be done in the new repo yeah.

@glefloch are you still interested in getting this PR done? There are some merge conflicts that need fixing

@mniewrzal do you mind closing this PR? As I said we no longer accept new storage drivers. Feel free to shift it to a dedicated repository as we are clearing...

Please check if the issue is fixed in the latest release https://github.com/distribution/distribution/releases/tag/v3.0.0-alpha.1 It's extremely unlikely `v2.x` will receive any updates from now on.
