Ein buffer hangs with "Text is read-only"

Problem description

After some time working with ein the message

Text is read-only

appears in *Messages* (and the minibuffer) and the Emacs ein buffer becomes unresponsive.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Unfortunately it seems just to happen randomly, today after perhaps half an hour, then after 20 minutes at which time I followed the bug report guidelines and the problem appeared in a few minutes.
