Should there be a feed? I didn't set anyone to initially follow. Did select relays until all three categories said they were happy. Empty Inbox. No other feeds. Not a good experience to have alt social media with no feed at all. Pls let me know what information I can provide to help resolve this. Thanks.

Gossip doesn't provide a feed outside of what you curate for yourself. It only shows you posts written by people you follow, so if you haven't followed anybody yet it won't show you anything.

I see. Is there a place to get a list of good people to follow? Is there anyway to follow subjects of interest instead? So then I only see there posts and traffic? In what sense would that allow discovery of new people to follow? I feel like I am missing something.

You can add people under People Lists > Followed > Add Contact

If you dig into posts (click the dot on the right of a post to see that thread), you'll find other people that you can follow easily by clicking their name and choosing "Follow"

Gossip started out more like a hacker tool than a client designed for normal people. We tried to make onboarding for new users better. But it probably will never suggest people to follow or have an "algorithm".

You might also try other clients that may offer more help finding people. The changes you make to your following lists on other clients carry over to gossip.
