Items doen'st stay in the secondary screen

Open JulieEwok opened this issue 3 years ago • 6 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

v0.61.1

Running as admin

  • [X] Yes

Area(s) with issue?

FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

I drag an item window in my second screen and have it full screen. Move across my desktops in Windows And when I'm back in that specific desktop with that window in the secondary screen, the item is back in one of my zone in the primary screen.

I checked and unchecked again the "Move across multiple screen" since I don't want it and it didn't change the result.

Only way it "fixed" the issue is if I exit Powertoys, put my item windows where i want them and reopen Powertoys...

Had no issue with this prior to the latest release.

✔️ Expected Behavior

That my item window in the secondary screen stayed there

❌ Actual Behavior

Moving across screen

Other Software

No response

Further investigation let me think this impacted microsoft outlook when I open in an other window the calendar from my inbox. ANd put the calendar in the secondary screen,.

PowerToysReport_2022-08-29-10-29-33.zip Here it is :)

It impact everything, not only outlook, after futher testing. I checked "across all monitors" for now, but this isnt the best. Also, what i consider my second display, is my laptop and I use a second screen as the main display.

@JulieEwok I came to report something very similar, possibly identical. In my case, I found that the option "Keep windows in their zones when the screen resolution changes" was causing the problem. Turning that off fixed the issue.

Do you have that turned on and, if so, does turning it off fix your issue?

In addition, I just noticed that, for the window to not be switched to the other screen, I had to assign it to a zone on the desired screen. Once I had done that, and the "Keep windows in their zones..." option was off, FancyZones would not move it to the other screen when switching virtual desktops.

HI, follow up to Jeremymarx' comment. That was not my experience. I set windows for excel and edge across two external monitors on my second desktop layout so that I could update a request for information in the gaps in my main other work. everytime I change to the second desktop, all the windows for any applications open are moved to the main (laptop) screen which is rather frustrating. Obviously, this doesn't happen in a single desktop as I am not changing desktops. Also, the primary desktop layout does not seem to be affected.

it is still pretty cool to have this control of my layout for the primary screens so thank you :)
