I'm finding it really hard to update things one by one, there's always an incompatibility at some level. It's much less work to just update everything at the same time. So that's what I'll do.

@Strift I know you've already made your own PR, but it's easier for me to start fresh, so I'll just continue my work on #1369.

I created the 3 sub-issues related to the most important parts. Let's keep this to the minimum for now, and we'll see later for the rest.

I understand that everything is so deeply linked that it's a bit hard to update only a single thing (hence why I ended up working on the huge #1363). But maybe it's possible to proceed step by step by doing:
