Dont strip metadata when saving image

I thought saving the images would make a duplicate of the image and its metadata but it appears to have been stripped away. Is this intentional? I much prefer it don't do that because I use the app to "move" old photos to the "front" of the Photos app by saving the search results expecting that it includes EXIF data.
