replacement for screenhero
apparently it stops taking new signups as they are joining slack
It's now gone if you're not on Slack. From the homepage:
The stand-alone Screenhero app is no longer available — but you can now share control of your screen from right within Slack. If you haven’t already, please migrate your team to Slack to use Screenhero-style screen sharing.
Personally, I use an alternative approach to screen sharing: shared terminal windows. I did this for a long time (and still do, in some circumstances) with Gnu Screen, but tmate is better in most circumstances, and it's amazingly easy to use (minimal host software, no special client software). So long as the host has tmate installed on his system, everybody else can join with ability to type or just to view via ssh to a specific address or even just putting a URL into their web browser. I typically set up an edit window, a build/test window, and often add a third window for more editing, debugging, viewing man pages or just playing around in a REPL.
The big advantage (aside from being amazingly fast and easy) is that everybody, including the host, has the rest of their desktop environment to do whatever else they need to do, such as looking up something in a web browser while another person is busy editing and running. (And your personal information from other windows or pop-ups isn't shown to other people.)
The big limitation is that you need to use an editor that works in a terminal window. This is no big deal for those of us who use Vim or Emacs, but Sublime and IDE users seem rather out of luck on that front.
