That explains why I had rtc issues. Updated to 1.6.x and the problem vanished. Wasn't the soldering though but an issue with raspberry zero 2 compatibility
Looked at the connectors again they seem fine as far as I can see
I wonder whether electron transparency could be used for a similar effect. basically bind the the window handles together (make the embed a child, but position behind the main content)...
